Today is a sad day. We lost one of the greatest legend in the comic multiverse.

Stan “the Man” Lee, rest in peace. Your legacy will live on with your creations. You will forever be missed!

Toy Review - Marvel Legends Spider-Man & Mary Jane Watson Toys 'R' Us Exclusive 2 Pack

Fresh from the sunny shores of Singapore, Toys ‘R’ Us started putting out their exclusive Marvel Legends All-New, All-Different (ANAD) Spider-Man and, finally, Mary Jane (MJ) Watson 2 pack!

I must thank my friends Toymaniac and Kurtcobain731 for helping me to secure this box set with the valuable hunt and intel.

It took Hasbro the breaking up of Peter and MJ to finally get MJ in 6 inch plastic, so let’s see how it is!

Trailer #2 is out!

On the most part, I like it, still think it has a lot of potential to be a fun movie.  I am just feeling a little too much involvement of Stark in making Peter into Spider-Man.  Hey, let our favourite Spidey do his thing man (I think they are trying too hard to merge Sony's Spidey into MCU, which I thought CW already did so having a fatherly figure for Peter makes no sense)!  Personally I don't think Stark has the capacity to mentor Peter.

Love the action scenes of Vulture.  Weird mask though...

I am not sure about "Ganke Lee"-ish best buddy but it makes for a good teenage movie.  At least the friendship looks kinda fun.

And of course, the suit does not make/ break Spidey...  Note to Marvel Studios: Not everything needs to be invented by Stark/ Stark Industries (Yes I know you are trying to diminish the brain power of Reed Richards, whose rights you do not have).

All in all, looking forward to July!

Guide to Comic Spider-Man Action Figures (updated end September 2016)

Hasbro has been churning out Marvel Legends fast and furious this year.  And with a Spider-Verse wave announced, spider fans have a lot to look forward to.  For this update, I have added the Space Venom BAF Ultimate Spidey (teen) Peter Parker figure.  With what was announced so far, I guess the next update should be the black Spidey figure based off the Pizza Spidey mold.  Really looking forward to that as the last proper black Spidey figure was from the Red Hulk BAF wave.

For this guide, I will focus on the red/blue (red/black) Spidey costumes and black costumes, but the figures will be shown in reverse chronological order, roughly from the latest figure to the oldest.  I will also provide my views on what I feel are the pros and cons of the figure.  I will also try to link to the artist who inspired the figure to the best of my knowledge.

Again, as you all know, Spidey is probably one of the most made action figures, my guide will only cover the 6 inch scale, articulated (good useful articulated figures with no action feature) and comic red/blue (red/black) and black costumes action figures.  And all these figures that I am covering are figures I actually owned but since I am not such a good photographer, most of the pictures are obtained from the reference sites mentioned below.  Figures from movies, alternate costumes (e.g. Morales, Iron-Spidey), knock-offs are not covered in this guide.

Toy Review - Marvel Legends Space Venom BAF Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker

Today, I will be taking a look at the Space Venom BAF wave Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker figure.  Hasbro has made teen body so that it is more suitable for the Ultimate Spider-Man’s teenage character.

At first glance it looks very much like a shrunken down version of Pizza Spider-Man figure released earlier.  Let’s see whether this is the case.

Toy Review - Marvel Legends Captain America Civil War 3-Pack Spider-Man

After watching Captain America: Civil War movie, I was so looking forward to this figure, because I find Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spidey amazing (pun intended) and I cannot wait for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

So let’s see how this figure fares.

Toy Review - Superior Spider-Man’s Mechanical Arms and Wrist Communicators from Shapeways (Designer: Strangefate)

Today I will not be reviewing a figure, but a custom “upgrade” kit for the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Superior Spider-Man figure from the BAF Ultimate Green Goblin wave.  This kit includes the mechanical arms from the backpack and the wrist gadgets (communicators for the Spider-Bots?) for Superior Spider-Man aka Doc Ock Spidey.

Toy Review - SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Raft Box Set Spider-Man

First of all, this review is dedicated to Glenn Webb, who unfortunately has just passed away unexpectedly on 26 August 2016.  He is such an inspiration and I was so looking forward to his review of this figure.  So I will try to cover what I think he would have covered if he were to review this.

Remembering Glenn Webb... R.I.P.

I try to keep my posts toy/ Spidey related.  But today is a very sad day and I feel compelled to do a post to remember a great guy, a friend.  It affected me more than I thought it would.  One of my favourite toy reviewers, Glenn Webb,  passed on unexpectedly in his sleep.  When I saw the post on Facebook, I thought it was a sick joke, and I hope it was, because I just saw his latest video hours back, but then more posts came and many other YouTubers confirm the tragic news.  We have lost a truly charismatic brother of the community today.

I don't know Glenn personally, but I have been following his videos for years now.  I have communicated with him a few times, and he is truly an inspiration.  Love his customs and his passion and sense of humour that he injected into all his reviews and videos.

Glenn, you left behind countless of toy collectors and fans inspired by your passion.  And it would be very hard for us to fill this void.  But thoughts are with your family and friends, and I hope you find peace, and all the toys you would ever want at toy aisles that goes on forever.

I will miss you my brother.  Thank you for everything.  Rest in peace.  Mmmmmmm, bye.

Toy Review - Medicom MAFEX The Amazing Spider-Man 2 No. 003

I have read good things about the MAFEX series by Medicom, especially the Amazing Spider-Man 1 figure.  However, I was not really into the costume in the first movie and also the secondary market price was on the high side for me.  When the second movie came out, I was pleasantly surprised at how much they have referenced back to the comic costume design, in fact, I think it is probably one of the closest it has ever been for Spidey (yes I know the Civil War Spidey costume has potential).  This figure also has a DX (deluxe) version with additional Andy Garfield head, additional accessories and a magnetic backdrop, but I decided to get this figure to see if the deluxe version is worth getting.

I am particularly drawn to the articulation of this figure, so without further ado, let’s take a look at this figure!

McFarlane, Snap Shot and Sinister 6 Spidey Comparison

It has been a long time. Not much happening from Hasbro in terms of 6 inch figures as well. I have recently been trying to revisit the older better Spidey figures.

Since I am not at home (working overseas), the number of figures I have with me is limited. I have recently try to accumulate some figures so that I can play... erm... pose them in my free time.

Now I am trying to put the better Spidey figures to a face-off comparison. I realise that not many people have done this before.

The figures I will be comparing will be:

1. Spider-Man (red carded) Classics Series 12 Superposeable Spider-Man with Wall Crawling Action aka McFarlane (Campbell) Spidey


2. Spider-Man (red carded) Classics Series 10 Snap Shot Spider-Man


3. Marvel Legends Sinister 6 Boxset Spider-Man

A year and counting

Hi folks,

It's been a year since my last post. I have been real lazy (and busy at work). It is bad to be in a foreign land where toys (the kind I am interested in) are not easily found. Been only back home once, and thanks to my many good buddies, got myself a stash of toys during a year of absence.

Think for the Spidey toys, nothing very exciting has been happening. The one worthy mention is that Hasbro reissued 2 new versions of the black Spidey. The one worthy of mention is the one from the BAF Red Hulk wave. I got myself a couple of those. I should do a review of it sometime soon, but I have not my old black Spideys to take comparison pics with. All in all a great figure with the exception of the non-articulated fingers and the hunch pose of the neck/ back.

Then there is this new Spidey wave of toys with the McG Venom, Tarantula and Juggy. Got my buddy to get me a set but I have not collected them. Will not be back for another 6 months or so, so I hope I get some time to write something about those soon.

Hasbro has been taking a more enthusiastic stand on the 3.75" figs and has slowed down on the 6". This is a sad thing. But then they are releasing the Secret Wars (my favourite Marvel crossover) figures which I cannot miss. We'll see how this goes.

SMC12 - Superposeable Spider-Man with Wall Crawling Action

Hi folks,

Pardon the long hiatus. Been real busy at work and now arranging my transfer (moving to Amsterdam for a job assignment). Still hope to be able to get toys over there.

Anyway, just when I thought I knew a fair bit about Spidey figures I found out something that totally escaped me.

One of my favourite Spidey is the Spider-Man Classics (SMC) 12 Superposeable Spider-Man with Wall Crawling Action, which affectionately known as McFarlane Spidey, but in actual fact, was inspired by J. Scott Campbell's (JSC) artwork. Just very recently, in a very innocent discussion, I found out that there are *gasp* 3 different batches (possibly more, personally I saw a UK version in London which happened to look just like Batch 1 though) of this JSC Spidey and each of them actually had a different headsculpt. My version (and to those whom I sold to) are all Batch 1, from the pics I see. I do hope that Batches 2 and 3 are not bootlegs.

Pilfering the pics on the sources I got, I will attempt to decribe each in detail. Not sure if anyone is such a Spidey action figures geek like me but I do like to go into such details especially for Spidey figures I like.

Spidey Stop-Motion Animation

A wonderful Spidey stop-motion animation. Took me ages to find it after the last I saw it couple of years ago. Made by Xipster for that year's SDCC (San Diego Comic Convention).



Love the smooth and realistic web slinging action, not to mention the Aerosmith's version of "Spider-Man" song. If you pay attention, you will notice the seamless transition of the 6 inch movie Spidey to the 18 inch movie Spidey and back.
